Date: Recorded June 21, 2021
Course description:
The development of this course was initiated due to a group of registered massage therapists requesting to review basic assessments and orthopedic special tests that can be easily incorporated in a massage therapy treatment session.
After many years of teaching orthopedics in the classroom, and incorporating these skills in the clinic setting, I have developed quick and easy assessment methods which I will be sharing with the group. During the course, I will be bringing in patients with real orthopedic conditions to demonstrate the assessment and special tests to confirm the suspected conditions.
This course is not a repeat of what is taught at the college level, as often the assessments taught take a long time to perform and therefore are not often utilized by RMTs in the clinic setting.
We also will explore why we are doing these assessments and testing procedures and what are the stumbling blocks for registered massage therapists or other health care professionals.

The instructor will bring in patients' who have active sciatica and or patients who have had active sciatica/disc injuries for case specific examples of assessment and treatment.
A neurological exam such as Dermatomes, Myotomes, and reflexes will be taught along with neurodynamic special tests to confirm or rule out sciatica.
Treatment techniques such as nerve tensioning, end range loading, and muscle energy techniques will be taught and shown live. Extension protocols will also be shown and discussed in the form of treatment and homecare exercises.
The participant will have the opportunity to learn how to…

This course was designed to give the participants an excellent understanding and review of orthopedic assessments and treatment protocols for the Hip, Pelvis and sacroiliac joints. Review of Anatomy, kinesiology and common musculoskeletal conditions will be presented and reviewed.
Hip and sacroiliac pain and dysfunction is one of the most common conditions seen by massage therapist and often one of the most difficult conditions to affect positive outcomes. Treatment techniques for these dysfunctions will be taught and explored with the group. Treatment techniques such as, joint play mobilizations (glides), tractions, nerve stretches/glides, end-range loading, muscle energy, contractile myofascial release, direct and indirect long and short lever mobilizations and proper use of a treatment/mobilization belt will be demonstrated and discussed.
The course will be held over 2 days with 14.5 hours of instructional classroom time. The participants will have adequate time to practice the techniques demonstrated.

In this course we will take an in-depth look-into effective ways to treat the rib cage and thoracic spine with stretching (end-range loading), joint mobilizations, muscle energy techniques, and Mckenzie extension protocols to treat disc and joint related pathologies. Postural corrections exercises will be discussed and demonstrated.
This course provides Massage Therapist effective treatment, remedial exercises methods, and techniques that are well within our scope of practice.
